What State You Live In Matters: Personal And Business Considerations

On a recent flight, I ran into a business acquaintance I had not seen for a couple of years. When I asked where he was headed, he said, “Florida. I live there now. Save a lot in income taxes.” He was always rather money-driven (“cheap” as some might call it); but, I found it interesting that he immediately ascribed his new state of residence to his tax situation rather than the weather, family or any other typical drivers for where one chooses to live. What about his work situation? He’s an independent financial advisor and still flies back to his home state monthly for client visits.
