For the better part of a decade we’ve seen Congress continue its juvenile squabbles while our infrastructure rots, skilled immigrants leave and our tax code metastasizes. Even as the cost of the current presidential election tops $1 billion, it’s safe to say that much of the country regards politicians as a necessary evil. They’ve long enjoyed a hallowed spot in the hierarchy of society’s admiration, nestled somewhere between bankers and Time Warner customer service, their ranks populated by a seemingly outsized share of deviants, adulterers, scions and worse: Lawyers.
