"Death From Above": The Playing Card Guru

Chances are you’ve seen the faces of Iraq’s Most Wanted.  If you have, it was probably on the faces of the playing card deck that was distributed to soldiers at the beginning of the Second Gulf War.  Those cards became a national sensation.  I learned the faces of the wanted sitting on the floor during 8th grade gym class.  It was enthralling stuff—each card featured the name, picture, and description of the 52 men Washington most desired to get their hands on.  A deck of these made you feel like you were with the troops for a moment, because you knew every soldier had one just like it.  500,000 of these decks had been distributed, and the desert-camo clad troops were sliding them around the base tables to kill time while they waited for someone to shoot.  Saddam Hussein was on the ace of spades, his lieutenants in the ranks below.
