Four Legged Soldiers Receives Memorial Day Honor

For those of us who have family members or friends serving in the armed forces, Memorial Day brings about moments of reflection and gratitude for those who departed this great country and didn’t return alive.   They said their goodbyes, and for the sake of duty and freedom, faced a terror we’d wish upon no one.  Through the course of time we have seen the impact of such horrors come closer and closer to home as many more of our loved ones are now signing up to serve this country and protect the cause of freedom we hold dear to us today.  In the midst of that, here at Whistling Wings kennel we often take a few minutes to  reflect on the service dogs we’ve trained and helped get ready for their own role in keeping our troops safe.  They provide this sort of sixth sense, that extra set of eyes and ears, and even just a companion that always has your back.  Yep, that’s right, even military working dogs deserve a moment of silence for their hard work and dedication to keeping America the land of the free, and the home of the brave.  A quote on the U. S. War Dogs website says it all: “The capability they (Military Working Dogs) bring to the fight cannot be replicated by man or machine. By all measures of performance their yield outperforms any asset we have in our inventory. Our Army (and military) would be remiss if we failed to invest more in this incredibly valuable resource.” – GENERAL DAVID H. PETRAEUS, USA. 9 February 2008.
